Weekly Discussions: Keep Up with Hair Routines

Hi everyone out there in the hair care world.  So, I will be bouncing back and forth between this blog and my  Black Hair Essence blog.  After all, this blog here is where it all came from.  So, this week I want to talk about “Keeping up With Hair Care Routines” because many of us do not understand the importance of what having a really good hair care routine means and what it does for our hair.

I advocate for the health of my daughter’s hair, but I can’t be on board with buying expensive hair care systems if she’s not going to keep a regular weekly routine that will provide her the results she needs with regards to growing her hair.  I mean, I have reached out to well known hair stylists on YouTube, have even reached out for suggestions and tips from my hairstylists in California to get some information on what to do with her hair.  Don’t get me wrong, I understand her frustration and where it comes, but I keep telling her that her issue is reversible, it’s just a matter of her making up her mind to stick with whatever working solution I present to her.

Here’s the thing….without a regular routine with products that are designed to do what it is formulated to do in terms of moisturizing, hydration, etc., the hair is bound to react in a negative manner.  Just like what will happen with hair if it’s over processed, or split ends left are not removed, if the scalp remains too dry for too long of periods….the hair will react in ways letting you know that it needs help.

When her hair first broke off badly I tried everything in my power to get her help before she moved out of California the second time.  People who know me also know that when she was a teenager, whenever I had a hair appointment, she had a hair appointment.  I made sure that hair appointments was apart of the monthly budget.  That’s what kept her hair healthy and strong.

If in your regular routine you are going to change a product(s) or add a product(s), I always say to do your research first.  What may work for someone else’s hair, may not necessarily for your hair.  Also if you are using a detoxification shampoo, you won’t really need the hydration shampoo.

It pays to pay attention to what the real pros are saying on YouTube.  Also, find and read reviews or products you’re considering using.  If possible, contact who makes that product and see if you can find out from them how the product will work on your hair.  It will be helpful to provide as much information about your hair including hair type.  That will be another discuss I’ll have. I know I’ve mentioned it before, but hair type has become a huge discussion among women in the black community.

LusetaFor my daughter’s hair I have opted to use the Biotin & Collagen shampoo and conditioner by Luseta.  I agreed to try it with her and one of the things I did was contact Luseta directly.  I told them I’d put her on an eight week trial to see how it works on her hair.  We are now on week two.  Because I told her that I contacted them and told them the plan, now she is obligated to stick to the plan (and because I remind her to get her hair washed and conditioned, and oiled.

It’s a process to have to do to get my daughter to get serious about her hair, but it’s all I could think of and I had to take drastic measures.  I am not one to want to spend crazy money on hair care systems if they are not going to be used and used regularly.

When it hit the shelves at Ross, I immediately did some research on it to find out if it would on her hair.  Having a routine is vitally important and I must tell her this every time she complains about her hair.  She wont tie it up at night, she wont wash her hair weekly unless I make a fuss about it.  I mean…come on…she’s a grown woman — 25 to be exact.  I am usually watching my granddaughter, so she has no excuse to not wash her hair regularly.  Even if we do have the same wash her days.  I can do mine late at night or early the following morning on the weekends and she can do hers that Saturday morning or Saturday night.  I don’t mind switching up as long as she is following the plan.

This is my hair on the second week of me using the Luseta Biotin and Collagen shampoo and conditioner.  So far no breakage that I can see.  Used with my other products such as Nairobi Wrap It Shine Lotion and the Redken Hydramelt Mega Soft leave in conditioner, I am good!  I use the Biosilk serum for heat protection after I blow dry my hair.  It’s silicon base so I don’t use it when I am blow drying my hair.  These pictures are before I applied the products because I wanted to show what it looks after I flat iron my hair — how light and airy it is.  This is a part of the 8 week plan to test out how well this shampoo and conditioner works on both mine and my daughter’s hair.

With that being said, if you have not figured out your weekly routine yet, or you do not have one started, you will want to get one going right away.  Your hair will react negatively and the damage can be catastrophic.  Believe me, I have come back from more hair damages than I care to remember, and I am drastically trying to help my daughter’s hair recover.

I’d like to hear from you…my readers.  What damage are you recovering from?  What does your weekly routine consist of and how long have you had that routine?  Do you need help finding a good routine and if so, what research are you doing and what products have you found that helped or had bad results from and good results from?  Comment below and remember to like this post.  If you think someone can benefit from the information on this site, feel free to pass on the information and follow this site.

Thanks for reading…
